The world’s largest information website, Wikipedia, has seen its popularity decline by nearly 8%, largely attributed to the growing influence of artificial intelligence (AI).

According to a foreign news agency, Wikipedia’s user base is shrinking rapidly as users increasingly turn to AI for quick information access.

Experts note that search engines now provide direct answers, reducing the need for users to visit Wikipedia. Additionally, the younger generation prefers platforms like YouTube, Instagram Reels, and TikTok for information, further eroding Wikipedia’s traffic.

Wikipedia has acknowledged that during May and June, a significant portion of its website traffic was driven by automated bots rather than human users, leading to a notable drop in genuine human visits.

To counter this downward trend, Wikipedia has launched new initiatives, including enhancing the clarity of information sources, improving content authenticity, and forming dedicated digital teams to reach new readers.
