Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz has stated that the decline of Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) began on May 9, the day its supporters raised arms against the state.

Speaking to the Ittehad Bainul Muslimeen Committee, she said: “As Palestinians were celebrating, a rogue party here was attempting to storm Islamabad.”

Maryam highlighted the vital role of religious scholars in societal improvement, noting that politics is everyone’s right — but national development must take priority.

“No one objected when PTI fought politically,” she remarked. “But the moment they took up weapons against the state, action became necessary.”

She drew a contrast with other parties: “We struggled too — but never lifted arms. Jamaat-e-Islami held rallies — without weapons. Religious groups protested — peacefully.”

Maryam condemned attacks on police, road blockades, and damage to public property as unacceptable.

“Police exist to protect lives and property. You cannot simply say: ‘Shoot any officer in sight,’” she added.

She emphasized that public safety is the government’s foremost duty and that daily life should not be disrupted for political motives.
