The Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) has finalized Chaudhry Yasin as its candidate for Prime Minister of Azad Jammu and Kashmir (AJK), paving the way for an in-house transition amid a brewing no-confidence motion against the incumbent.
Sources confirmed that PPP Chairman Bilawal Bhutto-Zardari announced Yasin’s name during a key meeting with party leaders, following deliberations on four potential nominees: Chaudhry Yasin, Latif Akbar, Faisal Mumtaz Rathore, and Sardar Yaqub Khan.
The decision comes after President Asif Ali Zardari and Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif’s discussions, with the PPP securing support from over 27 assembly members — including defectors from PTI’s forward bloc — to form a new government.
A formal announcement is expected tonight, with the no-confidence motion against PM Chaudhry Anwar ul Haq likely to be tabled in the AJK Legislative Assembly within the next 24 hours.
This shake-up follows weeks of political maneuvering, with PPP AJK President Chaudhry Yasin earlier confirming the party’s “final decision” to take power, backed by PML-N allies.
