Islamabad: Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif on Saturday celebrated the Pakistan Kidney and Liver Institute (PKLI) completing 1,000 successful transplant operations, calling it a transformation from a “2017 sapling to a towering tree.”
In a statement, he said over 4 million patients have benefited from PKLI, which provides 80% of treatments free of cost, delivering international-standard care to the poor.
He recalled past attempts to destroy the institute, including dissolving its Board of Governors to render it inactive. “When I took office in 2022, we revived PKLI from scratch,” he said, commending Punjab CM Maryam Nawaz for her efforts in its restoration.
The PM praised the entire PKLI team, saying their dedication in rebuilding and sustaining the institute is “truly commendable.” He vowed continued government support to expand life-saving services across Pakistan.
