Food, Tobacco, Apparel, Cement, and Automobile Sectors Drive Growth, Despite Declines in Petroleum and Steel

The Pakistan Bureau of Statistics (PBS) has reported a 4.44% increase in the production of large-scale industries from July to August 2025.

According to the PBS, 12 industrial sectors recorded growth, while 11 saw a decline. In August 2025, industrial production rose by 0.54% compared to August 2024, but saw a 2.75% decrease compared to July 2025.

Data highlights that the food, tobacco, apparel, cement, and automobile sectors were key contributors to the overall growth. The automobile sector recorded a growth of 1.83% from July to August, while the apparel sector saw a 0.84% increase, and the food sector registered a 1.02% growth.

The PBS noted slight declines in sectors such as fabricated materials, petroleum, chemicals, pharmaceuticals, and furniture. Petroleum product output dropped by 0.21%, and the iron and steel sector saw a 0.16% decline during the same period.

Additionally, the furniture sector experienced a 0.17% decrease, beverages 0.15%, chemicals 0.13%, and pharmaceuticals recorded a 0.11% reduction in growth.
