Pakistan and Sri Lanka have reaffirmed their commitment to further strengthen bilateral relations in the years ahead. The understanding was reached during a meeting between Prime Minister Muhammad Shehbaz Sharif and Sri Lankan President Anura Kumara Dissanayake on the sidelines of the 80th Session of the UN General Assembly in New York on Wednesday.
The meeting was held in a cordial atmosphere, reflecting the longstanding goodwill and trust between the two nations. Discussions covered a broad spectrum of subjects, including high-level exchanges, trade and investment, educational cooperation, cultural interaction, and defense collaboration. Regional and international developments of mutual interest were also reviewed.
Both leaders expressed satisfaction at the strong and dynamic nature of Pakistan-Sri Lanka ties and emphasized the need to continue working closely to take the relationship to new heights in the coming years.
They also agreed on the importance of strengthening cooperation in sports, especially cricket, a passion shared by both nations. The two sides pledged to remain constructively engaged for the advancement of bilateral relations and the promotion of peace, stability, and prosperity in the region.
The reaffirmation of ties at the UNGA session once again underscored the mutual commitment of Pakistan and Sri Lanka to their historic friendship and a shared vision for future collaboration.
