Islamabad: Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Ishaq Dar inaugurated Pakistan’s first Google Chromebook assembly line on Tuesday, describing it as a “historic milestone” that will make digital tools more affordable and accessible, especially in education.
Speaking at the launch event attended by federal ministers, IT experts, and Google representatives, Dar said: “We are witnessing a historic moment as we celebrate the invaluable partnership between Google and Pakistan.”
He called the initiative a “defining moment for our country’s digital transformation,” noting that local assembly will create jobs, develop supply chains, and pave the way for future tech exports. The facility, set up by Google’s partner Tech Valley with NRTC and Australia’s Allied in Haripur, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, aims to boost local manufacturing.
Under a new MoU, Google and Pakistan will train 100,000 developers in AI skills nationwide, while special programs target gaming and startups. Dar highlighted Google’s decision to open a local office as a strong endorsement of Pakistan’s digital potential.
IT Minister Shaza Fatima Khurram called it a “milestone moment” for Digital Pakistan. The government reaffirmed its commitment to fostering tech investments and innovation.
