Islamabad: Pakistan and Canada have agreed to strengthen ties in agriculture, emphasizing hybrid seed development, livestock breeding, embryo transfer technology, and feed formulation to drive innovation and boost farmer incomes.

The decision follows a meeting between Federal Minister for National Food Security Rana Tanveer Hussain and Canadian High Commissioner Tariq Ali Khan, who reaffirmed their commitment to expanding collaboration. The Special Investment Facilitation Council (SIFC) will lead efforts to attract foreign investment and modernize Pakistan’s agri-sector through sustainable reforms.

Minister Hussain proposed joint ventures for local production of agricultural machinery and highlighted canola cultivation’s potential to innovate crop yields, increase exports, and access global markets. Both sides also committed to forming a joint working group for certification, market access, and technical support.

This partnership aligns with SIFC’s initiatives to build investor confidence and stabilize the economy, including technology transfers and equitable water distribution for farming. Canadian Foreign Minister Anita Anand recently thanked Pakistan for facilitating canola imports, underscoring mutual benefits in food security and trade.
