Muzaffarabad: The no-confidence motion against Azad Jammu and Kashmir Prime Minister Chaudhry Anwar ul Haq remains stalled, with sources citing PPP’s failure to name a replacement leader and ongoing political wrangling as key hurdles.
PPP leaders have yet to finalize their candidate for the top post, and the motion is unlikely to be tabled until Chairman Bilawal Bhutto Zardari returns from abroad. The party, which claims a majority in the 53-seat Legislative Assembly, has secured PML-N’s backing but not for forming the next government.
PML-N’s push for early elections in March 2026—well before the assembly’s July 2026 term ends—has added complexity. With 80% of the development budget unspent, dissolving the house early could leave a caretaker setup powerless from January onward.
Sources say PPP insists on completing the full term, creating the impasse. AJK Law Minister Abdul Waheed recently stated the motion would be presented in 3-4 days, but party insiders doubt it will move before Bilawal’s input.
Anwar ul Haq, who assumed office unopposed with cross-party support, has vowed to contest the motion. The PPP-PML-N alliance signed the resolution on October 29 after 10 PTI lawmakers defected, boosting PPP to 27 seats and the coalition to 36 votes—enough for passage.
