The Government of Pakistan has issued a new timeline for the 5G spectrum auction.
According to reports, the original deadline was set for December 2025; however, the auction is now proposed to be held in the first quarter of next year, i.e., January to March 2026.
As per the Frequency Allocation Board, a total of 606 MHz spectrum will be available in six bands, including 700, 1800, 2100, 2300, 2600, and 3500 MHz.
This development comes after the US consulting firm NERA presented its detailed report to the Spectrum Advisory Committee. The report includes key recommendations on market readiness, pricing analysis, auction strategy, and licensing structure.
The Advisory Committee will soon submit its final recommendations to the Economic Coordination Committee and the federal cabinet, after which the Ministry of IT and Telecom will issue formal policy guidelines regarding the auction.
Experts say that the launch of 5G technology is expected to bring a significant increase in high-speed internet, improved connectivity, and digital economic activities in Pakistan.
