Maryam Nawaz, Irish envoy vow stronger Punjab-Ireland ties

Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz Sharif held a meeting with Ireland’s Ambassador to Pakistan, Mary O’Neill, on Friday. The two leaders discussed ways to strengthen ties between Punjab and Ireland.

The meeting focused on trade, climate cooperation, education, and information technology. Both sides agreed that bilateral cooperation must expand beyond traditional areas. They stressed the need for long-term partnerships in commercial, educational, and environmental fields.

Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz invited Ireland to invest in Punjab. She assured the ambassador that the Punjab government would extend full support to Irish investors. She said Ireland has a reputation for principles, progress, and innovation.

She described the opening of Ireland’s first embassy in Islamabad as a historic development. According to her, the embassy would help create new partnerships between Irish institutions and the people of Punjab.

Maryam Nawaz underlined that Pakistan and Ireland share common values. Both countries stand for peace, multilateral cooperation, and a rules-based international order.

Highlighting challenges, she said Punjab is one of the regions most affected by climate change. She explained that the province could offer Ireland promising opportunities in agriculture, dairy farming, and livestock development.

The chief minister said such cooperation would not only help Punjab’s economy but also create a model of sustainable growth. She welcomed Ireland’s interest in working with Punjab on environmental resilience and educational exchange programs.
