Karachi: Federal Minister for Maritime Affairs Qaiser Ahmed Sheikh announced plans to build three additional ports in Pakistan to grow the maritime economy and attract foreign investment.

Speaking in the city, Sheikh said he was nervous when first appointed but gained confidence after learning of billions in port profits. He highlighted how the ministry improved Pakistan’s container port performance from 98th to 9th globally.

The minister urged local investors to fund ports instead of housing projects near water. He outlined a 100-year vision from 2047 to 2147, targeting full capacity for existing ports (1,2,3) and developing ports 4,5,6.

Sheikh stressed that without strong ports, the economy would decline and foreign investors would leave. He invited global firms to invest, noting recent MoUs with companies like Maersk and Abu Dhabi Ports.
