Over 20 tax evaders have come under the Federal Board of Revenue (FBR)’s scrutiny due to their displays of extravagant lifestyles on social media.
These individuals showcased opulent living on social media, drawing FBR’s attention. Their income tax returns reflect negligible income and assets.
Intelligence reports detailing these cases have been forwarded to regional tax offices, initiating investigations and actions for tax recovery.
According to a prominent national newspaper report, the FBR’s Lifestyle Monitoring Cell has identified more than 20 such cases involving individuals flaunting crores in assets, luxury vehicles, frequent international travels, and lavish lifestyles on social media, yet declaring minimal or no income and assets in their submitted income tax returns.
Among these 20 cases is a figure from southern Punjab, who owns 19 luxurious and latest-model vehicles valued at a total of Rs 624 million. In his 2020 returns, this person declared only one vehicle worth Rs 1 million.
For the financial years 2021, 2022, and 2023, he declared a Toyota Yaris worth Rs 3.075 million, but in the 2024 returns, he marked the vehicle ownership section as “not applicable.”
A digital content creator and travel vlogger is also among these cases. He has visited multiple countries, but upon scrutiny of his returns by the FBR, it was revealed that he declared an income of only Rs 490,800, with Rs 390,000 in expenses and Rs 1.09 million in assets.
