Finland, a European nation, has declared plans to close its embassy in Pakistan, along with those in Afghanistan and Myanmar.
The Finnish Ministry for Foreign Affairs stated that the decision stems from operational and strategic factors, including shifts in the political landscapes of these countries and their limited commercial and economic ties with Finland.
The embassies in Islamabad, Kabul, and Yangon will be shuttered during 2026, with preparations already underway.
Finland had previously suspended its diplomatic activities in Pakistan in 2012 due to budget cuts, only to reopen the mission in 2022.
Foreign Affairs Minister Elina Valtonen emphasized that the reforms aim to redirect resources toward nations of greater strategic importance to Finland.
