Islamabad: The National Assembly has approved the Pakistan Air Force Amendment Bill 2025, Pakistan Army Act Amendment Bill 2025, and Pakistan Navy Act Amendment Bill 2025.
The bills were presented by Defence Minister Khawaja Asif, following which the Speaker conducted a voice vote, and the House passed them with a majority.
On this occasion, Federal Law Minister Azam Nazeer Tarar stated that these amendments have been introduced to align with the 27th Constitutional Amendment in the existing laws. He explained that the tenure of the Chief of Defence Forces will be five years from the date of appointment, with certain changes made to the Air Force and Navy.
Amendments regarding appointments to the new court under the Constitution have been approved, with the first appointment being that of the Chief Justice. He further stated that from now on, the Chief of Army Staff will also be the Chief of Defence Forces.
Amendments have been made to 11 sections of the Army Act 1952. Chapter One A of the Pakistan Army Act has been amended, replacing the Joint Chiefs of Staff Committee with the post of Commander of National Strategic Command.
There is a proposal to delete Section 2A of Section 8 of the Pakistan Army Act, and amendments are also proposed to Section 8A.
A major change has been made to Section 8A following the 27th Constitutional Amendment. Under paragraph A, clause 4 of Section 243 of the 27th Constitutional Amendment, an amendment has been proposed.
After the amendment to Section 8A of the Army Act, the Chief of Army Staff will also be called the Chief of Defence Forces.
