San Francisco: OpenAI has signed a massive $38 billion, seven-year agreement with Amazon Web Services (AWS) to power its AI models, marking the ChatGPT creator’s first major cloud partnership outside Microsoft.
Under the deal, OpenAI gains immediate access to hundreds of thousands of Nvidia GPUs and scalable computing resources, helping it build 30 gigawatts of infrastructure at a total cost of $1.4 trillion over the next decade. CEO Sam Altman called it a “huge step” for AI expansion, amid deals with Oracle ($300 billion) and Google.
Amazon shares surged 5% to an all-time high, adding $140 billion in market value, while Microsoft dipped briefly. Analysts warn of an AI “bubble” as tech spending tops $360 billion annually.
In related news, President Donald Trump announced Nvidia’s most advanced Blackwell AI chips will be reserved exclusively for US companies, barring China and others to protect national security. “We’ll not let anybody have them other than the United States,” he said in a CBS interview.
