The Asian Development Bank (ADB) has approved a $381 million financing package for Punjab to enhance agriculture, education, and healthcare services across the province, marking a significant boost to sustainable development initiatives.
According to an official ADB statement, the package includes a $120 million concessional loan and a $4 million grant, with the remainder structured on regular terms. The funds will be channeled into three key areas to deliver tangible improvements for rural and urban communities alike.
A major portion will support smallholder farmers by providing access to modern agricultural technologies, climate-resilient crops, and better market linkages, helping lift productivity and incomes in Punjab’s vital agrarian economy.
In education, the financing will upgrade school infrastructure, improve learning outcomes, and expand access to quality education, particularly in underserved districts.
The health component will focus on strengthening primary and secondary healthcare facilities, enhancing maternal and child health services, and building resilience against public health challenges.
The program aligns with Pakistan’s broader development goals and ADB’s Strategy 2030, emphasizing inclusive growth, climate adaptation, and human capital development. Implementation will be overseen by the Punjab government in coordination with relevant federal ministries, with disbursement expected to begin in early 2026.
This latest approval brings ADB’s active portfolio in Pakistan to over $12 billion, underscoring continued multilateral support for the country’s economic recovery and social sector reforms.
