Islamabad: In a relief measure for consumers, the federal government has announced a reduction in petroleum product prices, effective from midnight tonight, following recommendations from the Oil and Gas Regulatory Authority (OGRA).
According to the official notification, the price of petrol has been decreased by Rs2 per litre, bringing it down from Rs265.45 to Rs263.45. Similarly, high-speed diesel prices have been cut by Rs4.79 per litre, dropping from Rs284.44 to Rs279.65.
The adjustment reflects a continued decline in international crude oil benchmarks and stable import premiums, providing some respite from inflationary pressures on transportation and household budgets. While the cuts are modest, they are expected to ease costs for commuters, farmers, and logistics sectors in the short term.
This fortnightly revision, applicable from December 1 to December 15, 2025, comes after earlier projections of slightly steeper reductions—around Rs3.75 for petrol and Rs6.10 for diesel—were tempered by final calculations. The government has maintained other levies, including the petroleum development levy, unchanged for now.
Finance Ministry officials noted that such periodic adjustments are crucial for aligning domestic prices with global markets, with further reviews slated for mid-December. Consumers are advised to check local pumps for immediate implementation, as delays in some areas have been reported in past updates.
