The online movement urging people to “delete Facebook” has gained massive momentum worldwide following Meta’s announcement of a new privacy update tied to artificial intelligence.

Under the upcoming changes, set to roll out from December 16, 2025, Meta will use data from users’ interactions with its AI chatbots to enhance and train its AI systems, the company stated. This data will be limited to improving AI models and providing personalized recommendations.

Meta emphasized that the policy will not apply to private chats, conversations with friends or family, or encrypted messages, ensuring those remain protected.

The announcement triggered widespread outrage on social media, with users accusing Meta of gaining access to their photos, voices, writings, and AI chats for analysis. Many expressed fears that the update heightens risks of personal information misuse.

In a clarifying statement, Meta assured that sensitive data—such as religious beliefs, health details, sexual orientation, political affiliations, or other personal backgrounds—will neither be used for analysis nor incorporated into ad targeting.

Additionally, for voice-based AI interactions, the microphone will only activate with explicit user consent, and a clear indicator will remain visible on the screen during use.
