China has instructed its citizens to refrain from traveling to Japan in the near future amid rising bilateral tensions. The Chinese Foreign Ministry cited deteriorating relations, triggered by recent comments from Japanese Prime Minister Sanae Takaichi on potential intervention in a Taiwan conflict, as the primary reason. Beijing lodged a strong protest, summoning the Japanese ambassador for the first time in over two years and accusing the statement of infringing on China’s sovereignty and territorial integrity. The ministry warned that current conditions in Japan pose significant safety risks to Chinese nationals, with potential travel restrictions or other hazards emerging soon. The advisory aims to protect citizens and prevent potential complications abroad. Experts view this as a clear indicator of mounting strain in Sino-Japanese ties, which could lead to further diplomatic complexities.
