Foreign Minister Ishaq Dar stated in the Senate that the government will introduce the 27th Constitutional Amendment in Parliament soon, after taking coalition partners into confidence, including PPP, MQM-P, ANP, and BAP.
Dar said the amendment, to be presented by the government per constitutional norms, includes a constitutional court, executive magistrates’ restoration, judge transfers, NFC Award changes, Article 243 tweaks, federal control over education/population planning, and ECP appointment fixes.
He urged Senate Chairman Yousaf Raza Gillani to finalize the opposition leader selection per rules, assuring full support for parliamentary balance and PTI’s rights.
Addressing Bilawal Bhutto’s comments, Dar reaffirmed transparent, principled processes, with committee reviews incorporating legal experts’ input for refinements. The coalition holds 233 seats in the 336-member National Assembly, needing two-thirds for passage. PTI opposes it as a judicial independence threat
