Islamabad: PPP Chairman Bilawal Bhutto Zardari revealed that Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif led a PML-N delegation to meet him and President Asif Ali Zardari, requesting the party’s support for the proposed 27th Constitutional Amendment to secure a two-thirds parliamentary majority.
In a post on X, Bilawal detailed the amendment’s key elements: establishment of a constitutional court, restoration of executive magistrates, power to transfer judges, removal of protections for provincial shares in the National Finance Commission (NFC) Award, revisions to Article 243 (on armed forces command), return of education and population planning to federal control, and mechanisms to resolve Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) appointment deadlocks.
The PPP’s Central Executive Committee (CEC) will convene on November 6, after President Zardari’s return from Doha, to finalize the party’s stance. This follows the controversial 26th Amendment, which fixed the Chief Justice’s term at three years and created constitutional benches.
Analysts say the 27th Amendment could reshape federal-provincial dynamics and judicial oversight, amid ongoing debates on institutional reforms.
