Islamabad: Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif on Tuesday said Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan stood with Pakistan “like a rock” during the recent tensions with India.
Addressing a ceremony in Islamabad to mark Turkey’s 102nd Republic Day, the premier extended warm felicitations to the Turkish nation and highlighted the deep fraternal ties between the two countries.
“Today, the flags of Pakistan and Turkey fly high together in Islamabad as we celebrate your national day,” he said, praising Turkey’s remarkable journey of progress under the founding vision of Mustafa Kemal Atatürk and the dynamic leadership of President Erdogan.
Sharif underscored that Pakistan-Turkey relations are rooted in shared faith, history and mutual affection spanning decades. “We want to further deepen this time-tested bond,” he added.
Lauding the Turkish Armed Forces and President Erdogan’s steadfast support, the prime minister said: “When India resorted to aggression, our valiant forces under Field Marshal General Syed Asim Munir taught New Delhi a befitting lesson. Throughout the crisis, President Erdogan stood shoulder-to-shoulder with Pakistan—a true reflection of brotherhood.”
He recalled Turkey’s immediate assistance during wars, devastating earthquakes and floods, saying Ankara has always been at the forefront of help.
The premier also thanked President Erdogan for his unwavering support to the people of Gaza. “Turkey continues to stand by the oppressed in every hour of need,” he said.
