In a groundbreaking debut, Pakistan’s national padel team has qualified for the main round of the Asia Padel Cup, showcasing exceptional skill in the qualifiers held in Doha, Qatar.
Competing for the first time in the FIP Asia Padel Cup, organized by the International Padel Federation (FIP), Qatar Tennis Federation (QTF), and Padel Asia, the Pakistani team dominated Group B with back-to-back wins over China and Thailand. Most players are experiencing their first international event, marking a significant milestone for padel in Pakistan.
In the decisive second match of the qualifiers, Pakistan secured a 3-0 victory over Thailand to clinch qualification. The first set saw Muhammad Salar and Abdullah Adnan overpower their Thai opponents 6-2, 6-3 with precise and clinical play.
The second set featured Mohammad Kamil and Ashish Kumar, who sealed the win 6-2, 7-5, demonstrating composure under pressure. Prior to this, Pakistan had edged out China 2-1 in their opening tie.
With this triumph, Pakistan joins Kuwait, Jordan, and Lebanon in advancing to the Final 8 men’s draw, grouped in Group B alongside Qatar, Australia, and Kuwait. The top two teams from each group will progress to the semifinals, scheduled from October 20-24 at the Khalifa International Tennis and Squash Complex.
The tournament features 17 men’s teams from across Asia and Oceania, including Bahrain, Indonesia, Japan, Kazakhstan, Philippines, Saudi Arabia, South Korea, UAE, and seeded nations like UAE, Iran, Qatar, and Australia. Pakistan’s entry into the main round has ignited hopes of establishing the sport’s footprint on the continental stage
