Pakistan has scripted a new chapter in space exploration with the successful launch of its first hyperspectral satellite, HS-1, in collaboration with China.

The HS-1 hyperspectral satellite was launched into space from China and the launch footage was displayed at SUPARCO’s headquarters.

According to a SUPARCO spokesperson, the hyperspectral satellite will aid in predicting floods, landslides, and other natural disasters, while also providing timely monitoring of environmental changes and geological hazards.

The spokesperson added that this mission is a key milestone in Pakistan’s national space policy and Vision 2047, opening new avenues for infrastructure mapping and urban planning.

This is the third satellite Pakistan has launched into space this year, following the successful deployments of EO-1 and KS-1, both of which are currently fully operational in orbit.

The spokesperson noted that Pakistan’s space program is entering a new era of advanced technology and applications. The hyperspectral mission is an important milestone in the national space policy and Vision 2047
