In a commanding display at the ICC Women’s World Cup, the Australian women’s cricket team secured a resounding 107-run victory over Pakistan in the ninth match, further cementing their dominance in the tournament. The match, held at the R. Premadasa Stadium in Colombo, showcased Australia’s prowess as they continue their quest for another title.

Opting to bat first, Australia posted a challenging total of 221 runs for the loss of 9 wickets in their allotted 50 overs. The standout performance came from Beth Mooney, who crafted a magnificent 109-run innings, anchoring the side with her resilience and skill. Her knock proved pivotal in setting a formidable target for Pakistan.

Pakistan’s bowling attack showed resilience, with Nashra Sandhu leading the charge by claiming 3 wickets. Fatima Sana and Rameen Shamim each picked up 2 wickets, while Sadia Iqbal and Diana Baig chipped in with one apiece, keeping the Australian scoring in check at times.

Chasing 222, Pakistan’s batting lineup crumbled under pressure, being bowled out for a mere 114 runs in the 37th over. No batter managed to rise to the occasion, with Sidra Ameen top-scoring with 35 runs. Rameen Shamim contributed 15, and Fatima Sana added 11, but the rest of the order faltered. The innings began disastrously, with Pakistan losing 5 wickets for just 31 runs in the first 9 overs.

Australia’s bowlers were relentless, with Kim Garth delivering a match-defining spell, taking 3 wickets for just 14 runs in her 6 overs. Annabel Sutherland supported with 2 wickets, while Megan Schutt, Ashleigh Gardner, Georgia Wareham, and Alana King each claimed one, dismantling Pakistan’s batting order with clinical precision.

This victory strengthens Australia’s grip on the points table, while Pakistan now faces a “do-or-die” scenario in their upcoming matches. Meanwhile, speculation mounts about the Pakistan Super League (PSL), with plans to host its next season in April and May 2026, potentially featuring two new teams to boost the league’s competitiveness.
