The International Cricket Council (ICC) has officially warned Indian captain Suryakumar Yadav over his political comments made after the match against Pakistan.
The issue began when Suryakumar made controversial remarks following India’s group-stage win over Pakistan in the Asia Cup. Pakistan lodged a formal complaint to the ICC, stating that the Indian captain brought politics into cricket and violated the ICC Code of Conduct.
Sources revealed that during the hearing, ICC officials reviewed evidence submitted by the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB), which included video footage and transcripts of Yadav’s statements. The ICC agreed that the remarks could damage the spirit and reputation of the game.
Earlier, match referee Richie Richardson also addressed the issue in an email to the Indian team management. He noted that the comments appeared to undermine the integrity of the sport and called for appropriate review and accountability.
Pakistan’s letter to the ICC detailed how Suryakumar’s comments on September 14 directly targeted Pakistan and went against the principles of fair play. PCB stressed that such behavior, if left unchecked, could turn cricket grounds into political arenas.

Moreover, Pakistan pointed out that all Asia Cup matches fall under ICC’s full code of conduct. The board urged strict action, warning that failure to respond would set a dangerous precedent.
Following the hearing, ICC did not impose a fine or suspension but issued a clear warning. Suryakumar was told to avoid political statements in the future and act responsibly as a captain.
This incident has reignited the debate on keeping politics out of sports. It also highlights rising tensions between cricketing rivals India and Pakistan, both on and off the field.
As the tournament continues, eyes are now on the ICC to see how consistently it enforces its own rules and ensures the game remains neutral and respectful.
