Top tennis players have made fresh demands for the major prize money at the sport’s four Grand Slams to be greatly increased, demanding organizers distribute a greater proportion of revenues to players.

As per reports from international media, a list of leading 10 players — such as Aryna Sabalenka, Jannik Sinner, Coco Gauff, and Carlos Alcaraz — have penned a collective letter, the second one this year, to the board of the Grand Slams. Their wish list includes increased prize money distribution, in addition to better benefits for pensions, health care, and maternity leave.

The competitors have particularly requested organizers to increase the prize money portion from the present 16 percent of tournament revenues to 22 percent by 2030. The change, if accepted, would take the Australian Open purse to about $100 million and the US Open’s to over $150 million.

The total prize money in the four Grand Slams totaled $440 million in 2025. In the new structure, that total could cross $500 million over the next five years. Players complain that even as sponsorship, broadcasting, and ticket revenues have reached a record high, distribution towards prize money has not followed suit.

Negotiations have already occurred among players, their agents, and the main stakeholders of the sport. The participants say the talks are focused on creating a sustainable business model that rewards athletes during and after their playing days.

The United States Tennis Association (USTA), the organization that governs the US Open, has officially replied to the letter by the players. The association pointed out that prize money has always increased, with a 57 percent jump in the past five years. Officials pointed out that the US Open increased its purse again for this year, showing an unwavering commitment to compensating athletes.

Players are still at the heart of the success of the Grand Slams, and we are pleased to have been at the forefront of providing the greatest returns in the sport,” the USTA statement added, but avoiding explicit support for the planned 22 percent revenue share.

Witnesses comment that the latest campaign represents one of the most coordinated movements among players to seek a larger financial interest in the sport. With tennis revenues already on the rise internationally, pressure will likely intensify against organizers of Wimbledon, the French Open, and the Australian Open to do the same.

Experts believe the matter may define the future of professional tennis economics, with top players using their power to negotiate not only larger prize cheques but also long-term stability for the broader playing community.
