ISLAMABAD: Federal Minister for Communications Abdul Aleem Khan on Thursday reaffirmed the government’s commitment to upgrading and expanding the country’s road infrastructure, calling it essential for economic growth and public convenience.
Speaking at a ceremony titled “A Night of Celebration” in honour of the newly elected Islamabad Chamber of Commerce and Industry (ICCI) President Sardar Tahir Mehmood, the minister outlined several key projects.
He announced that the Sukkur-Hyderabad and Hyderabad-Karachi Motorway, one of the most critical segments of Pakistan’s motorway network, will be inaugurated this year and fully completed within two years. The project will connect Sukkur with Karachi Port, boosting trade and logistics efficiency.
Updating on other developments, Abdul Aleem Khan said the N-25 Karachi-Quetta Highway is under construction and nearing completion. He added that a new Mansehra-Kaghan-Naran-Babusar Top Motorway is under consideration as an alternative to the Karakoram Highway, improving northern access and tourism.
The minister further disclosed that work on the Sialkot-Kharian-Rawalpindi Motorway will begin soon, reducing the Lahore-Islamabad distance by 100 kilometers and travel time to two and a half hours. A Kasur-Lahore-Okara-Sahiwal road corridor, linked with the Karachi Motorway, is also being planned.
He assured the business community of full government support, stressing that Pakistan has vast potential to overcome challenges and move towards prosperity.
