ISLAMABAD : Pakistan’s services sector exports in the last fiscal year increased by 9 percent on a year-on-year basis, which was primarily boosted by strong performance from the information technology sector, official statistics showed on Wednesday.
Total services exports from July 2024 to June 2025 amounted to $8.39 billion, up from $7.69 billion in the previous fiscal year, as per documents. Growth is indicative of sustained demand for Pakistan’s IT and business services in international markets amidst a difficult global economic outlook.
The information technology industry took center stage, accounting for 47.5 percent of the nation’s overall services exports. IT exports grew by 24 percent throughout the year, highlighting the industry’s strength to prop up Pakistan’s external account. IT-linked exports — including telecom, computer, and information services — reached $354 million alone in July 2025, solidifying the industry’s position as the pillar of services trade.
The statistics also indicated July was especially robust for the exports of services as a whole, with receipts increasing 18 percent from year to year to $745 million. Analysts credited the upsurge to mounting outsourcing demand, digitalization in advanced economies, as well as competitive pricing by Pakistani companies.
Outside of IT, other segments also had steady increases. Business services exports totaled $151 million in July, with travel services contributing $47 million in revenue. Transport was also in evidence, with $79 million in exports — 5 percent more than June and 22 percent more than a year earlier in the same month.
Authorities maintain that sustained growth of services exports provides a buffer to the country’s long-standing trade deficit, which has historically been goods imports-driven. “IT is the fastest-growing segment of the services sector, and if the trend is sustained, it can be a key driver to stabilize the external position of the country,” said a senior official.

The government has already flagged IT as a key export industry and is in the process of formulating incentives to enhance digital skills training, enhance broadband connectivity, and offer tax facilitation for exporters. Industry experts claim that with additional policy support, IT services itself could reach over $5 billion every year in the near term.
Pakistan’s services sector has been traditionally dominated by exports of goods, especially textiles, but experts say that the new global trend in technology, e-commerce, and remote work offers a first-time opportunity for Pakistan to open up and spread its wings. “If well utilized, services, and IT particularly, have the potential to become Pakistan’s new export driver,” an analyst opined.
