Riyadh: Saudi Foreign Minister Prince Faisal bin Farhan warned on Monday that any effort by Israel to annex occupied West Bank territory would prompt Arab and Muslim nations to react strongly.
As Arab media reported, Faisal bin Farhan had delivered this message to U.S. President Donald Trump personally, emphasizing that the move would not only invoke harsh criticism from the Islamic world but also undermine efforts at reconciliation in Gaza and wider peace in the region.
“The Palestinian cause and its just resolution remain our top priority,” Prince Faisal stated, reaffirming Riyadh’s standing position in favor of Palestinian rights.
The Saudi foreign minister further made the declaration to set up a joint fund with regional partners to grant economic assistance to the Palestinian Authority. Saudi Arabia donated $90 million in aid, the purpose of which was to stabilize Palestinian institutions and support everyday services for civilians, under the initiative.
The comments follow increased global controversy amid recent reports that Israeli authorities are mulling measures to assert sovereignty over portions of the West Bank. Although the Israeli government has not yet publicly disclosed plans for annexation, speculation has sparked widespread alarm among Arab capitals.
Prince Faisal said he was confident President Trump has an understanding of the Arab and Muslim world’s stance on the matter. The remarks came after Trump himself made a public decision earlier this week not to let Israel go ahead with annexation, describing it as a step that would “go too far.

Analysts point out that the Saudi warning is an indication of increasing anxiety in the Middle East about both what Israel is doing and the precarious nature of current ceasefire talks in Gaza. Others say Riyadh’s financial commitment is an effort to shore up Palestinian institutions in a time of uncertainty.
The Palestinian cause remains a tinderbox at the United Nations General Assembly, where several leaders are likely to voice displeasure at Israel’s actions in the occupied territories.
As tensions boil, diplomats indicate Riyadh’s message is a warning that Arab and Muslim nations may ramp up political and economic pressure on Israel if annexation proceeds, possibly complicating American diplomatic initiatives in the Middle East.
