Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif addressed the 80th session of the United Nations General Assembly in New York, highlighting major global challenges and Pakistan’s position on key issues.
He began by saying the world is becoming increasingly unstable. Conflicts are growing. International laws are being ignored. Humanitarian crises are multiplying. Terrorism continues to threaten peace. Fake news is spreading distrust. Climate change is endangering lives, especially in vulnerable countries like Pakistan.
Calling for unity, he said multilateralism is no longer a choice but a necessity. Pakistan’s foreign policy, he added, follows the vision of Quaid-e-Azam. It is rooted in peace, respect, and cooperation. He emphasized that Pakistan supports resolving conflicts through dialogue and diplomacy.
Turning to regional tensions, the Prime Minister reminded the global community of his warning last year about external aggression. He said that prediction came true in May when Pakistan faced an unprovoked attack from the eastern border.
He said India rejected his offer for an international investigation into the Pahalgam incident and instead launched strikes on Pakistani cities. It targeted innocent civilians. He made it clear that Pakistan responded with full force, using its right to self-defence under Article 51 of the UN Charter.
He praised Pakistan’s armed forces for their swift and professional response. Under the command of Army Chief General Asim Munir and the Air Chief, the military launched a counter-operation. The Air Force shot down seven Indian jets.
